Prisoners in solitary petition United Nations: ‘CDCR destroys our minds, souls and spirits’ | San Francisco Bay View

Prisoners in solitary petition United Nations: ‘CDCR destroys our minds, souls and spirits’ | San Francisco Bay View ~~ “California holds more prisoners in solitary confinement than any other state in the United States or any other nation on earth. The treatment of these prisoners is barbaric and, numerous experts agree, amounts to torture.” Peter Schey, who heads the Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law, is lead counsel for the prisoners who have “joined together to petition the United Nations to intervene by conducting on-site investigations, permitting Red Cross visits, and ultimately ruling that California’s policy on isolated segregation amounts to torture and violates well-established international human rights norms.”

Offensive technology New facial recognition technology from Japan

Offensive technology New facial recognition technology from Japan~~ A new camera technology from Japan can scan days of camera footage
instantly, and find any face which has EVER walked past it.

It can scan 36 million faces per second and stores a biometric
image of every face it scans.

The technology raises the specter of governments - or other
organizations - being able to 'find' anyone instantly simply using
a passport photo or a Facebook profile.

Governments, or anyone else for that matter, will be able to buy
this technology as soon as next year.

California Prisoners in Solitary Confinement Petition the UN to Intervene « Solitary Watch

California Prisoners in Solitary Confinement Petition the UN to Intervene « Solitary Watch ~~ California prisoners face cruel and dehumanizing long-term and indefinite confinement in small concrete cells with no windows, no natural light, and no furniture, they also endure frequent episodes of cruelty by guards, inadequate medical care, entirely inadequate mental health services, inadequate access to the outdoors and sunshine, inadequate food, inadequate access to legal counsel, inadequate visitation with friends and family and no opportunities to work or engage in productive activities of any type. They are effectively locked in a concrete small space that becomes a "living coffin" in which many have been confined for many year, even decades

Capuchino High Stands Up Against Bullying - San Bruno, CA Patch

Capuchino High Stands Up Against Bullying - San Bruno, CA Patch ~~Bullying is a real problem at any school, and Capuchino High is taking the issue seriously.
In this week's edition of Capuchino Corner, produced by the students of the school's Art of Video and IB Film program, students and staff talk about what the school is doing to prevent anyone from being bullied. It's quite a nice PSA.
The Art of Video and IB Film program is a digital filmmaking program for teens at Capuchino High School. The course studies the art of filmmaking through experience with hands on-projects and the study of film. Dominic Bigue founded the program in 2000. He's also the instructional technology coordinator for the San Mateo Unified High School District.

350 | Watch the Video, Join the Fight  ~~ Please take a minute to add your name to the petition calling for Congress to put an end to fossil fuel subsidies. Over the next month, we'll ramp up the pressure -- on Twitter, on Facebook, over the phones, and in district -- to get every politician to tell us where he or she stands on these subsidies. For now, we'll use this petition to show Congress how important this issue is -- and when we launch our big push to get every member of Congress on the record, they'll know that we have an army of concerned citizens who have our back.
